The Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau (GRCVB) announced today several changes to the Rome & Floyd County Civil War commemoration calendar.
Due to the popularity of the Spirits of the Civil War: Downtown Rome trolley tour, the tour will be repeated in the fall. On September 10, 2011, a guide dressed in period costume will share the major locations and stories of the Civil War throughout historic Downtown Rome. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance for $5each.
The bureau also announced that the Spirits of the Civil War: Fort Norton scheduled for June 11 has been moved to 6pm. The event on Jackson Hill will feature reenactors describing Civil War logistics from the viewpoint of Fort Norton and a lecture from local historian Dan Roper. Jackson Hill is located in front of the Civil Center and Rome – Floyd Visitor Center.
In addition, the 8th Regiment Band Concert directed by John Carruth will be rescheduled for a later date. An announcement will be made when the new date is selected.
Tickets for all Civil War events are available at the Rome – Floyd Visitor Center or by calling (800) 444-1834 or (706) 295-5576.
