The Berry College Theatre Company will present, Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl, final production of the season beginning April 7 at the E.H. Young Theatre.

The production will run April 7-9 and April 14-16 beginning at 8 p.m.  There will be one Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. April 17.  Opening night tickets are $5; all other performances are $7.  Call the Berry box office at 706-236-2263 for reservations.

Eurydice is a new play by the young playwriting sensation Sarah Ruhl.   The play is a charming and touching postmodern take on the Orpheus myth, and examines youthful romance, the love of a father for his daughter, and the mystery of the underworld.  Imaginative, magical and lyrical, the play breaks new theatrical ground and challenges our assumptions about the nature of drama.

“The play will be marked by curious incidents in the manner of Alice and Wonderland and will be in keeping with Wilson’s ‘Theatre of Images’ by creating remarkable ‘snapshots’ of critical moments in the play,” explained Director John Countryman.

Costume designer Alice Bristow has created costumes that, like the architecture in the play, integrate styles from the Greeks to “steam-punk.”  The stones, in particular, are permanent residents of the Underworld and are dressed outlandishly.

“What I love about this show is that there are no rules!  We can define the environment and the people in it any way we like,” added Bristow.

The Berry College Theatre Company season has been a tribute to Berry’s own Dan Biggers, remarkable actor, friend, mentor and loyal patron of the arts.
