Tickets are now available for the Spirits of the Civil War tour series hosted by the Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau (GRCVB).
The Spirits of the Civil War tour series is modeled after the format of the GRCVB’s popular cemetery and downtown tours. Civil War history will come alive in the tours through story-telling & reenactments on the actual sites of major military action.
The tours are part of a larger effort by the GRCVB to educate and commemorate both residents and visitors on Rome’s Civil War history throughout the Sesquicentennial, or 150th anniversary, of the War Between the States.
The April 9 premier of the series will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery and feature actors in period dress portraying notable citizens of the time.
May 7 will be a tour of downtown aboard the Toonerville Trolley. Most of Rome’s major Civil War sites will be covered on this hour long tour.
June 11 take place on Historic Jackson Hill, the location of Fort Norton, just after sunset.
The April and June tours will have a standard fee of $8 per adult and $5 per child under 12.
In celebration of National Tourism Week, the May 7 tours will be free to all residents and visitors. While the event is free, a ticket is required. All seats are expected to be reserved soon.
“In an effort to connect the visitor and resident with our Civil War history, we created events and developed tours to attract visitors and educate them on our rich heritage,” said Lisa Smith.
The GRCVB also launched a new Civil War History in Georgia’s Rome page on Facebook. The page contains Civil War event information and will include historical facts and articles concerning Rome. The page can be found at www.facebook.com/CivilWarInRome.
Tickets are available at the Rome Visitor Center on Monday through Friday from 9:30a.m. to 5:00p.m. and Saturday from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m.
