The Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau (GRCVB) announced today the hiring of Charlene Mathis as the new manager for the Last Stop Gift Shop, Rome’s largest supplier of signature gifts, inside the Rome Visitor Center.

Mathis, a Rome native, was tapped for the job due to “vast experience in all aspects of retail management,” according to Lisa Smith, GRCVB executive director

“The expertise that Charlene brings to the Last Stop Gift Shop will take our customer service, product, online sales and marketing of Georgia Made Georgia Grown products to a new level for visitors and locals alike,” said Smith.

Mathis begins the new position with nearly 28 years in retail management and a degree in fashion merchandising from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She spent 13 years with Belk’s Department Store as an area sales manager and buyer.

“I’m looking forward to expanding the reach and market of the gift shop with new products and marketing efforts,” said Mathis.

The Last Stop Gift Shop was created in 2004 and carries a variety of gifts, Rome’s largest collection of signature items and local artwork and crafts.

“We are also looking for new artists to grow our consignment program for local art, crafts and products,” said Mathis.

Mathis can be reached at the Last Stop Gift Shop by calling 706.295.5576 or charlene@laststopgiftshop.com.
