The Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau (GRCVB) released its 2010 Annual Report to their Board of Directors today showing a total economic impact of $9,334,215 in tourism expenditures to Rome and Floyd County.

Economic impact from sporting events totaled 65% of their total at $6,112,597. This great gain in the sport market countered a slight decline in the meetings and conventions market.

The figures released by the GRCVB represent only events, conventions, meetings and other activities where the GRCVB was directly involved. A report with all tourism expenditures, sales tax generation and job creation for 2010 within Rome & Floyd County will be released in early summer by the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

Events with the most economic impact in 2010 included the NAIA Football National Championship, the Georgia Junior Open tennis tournament, the Georgia Challenger tennis tournament, SSAC basketball tournament, the Georgia State Jr. Spring Open tennis championship and the variety of other sporting events.

“The relationships that we have built with our many community partners are the foundation for the success of bringing tourism to Floyd County,“ said Lisa Smith, GRCVB executive director.

A review of all marketing and advertising efforts was also published. Highlights for 2010 included 5 new publications, a new website and dramatically increased social media efforts.

Objectives for 2011 include increasing exposure to the film industry, strengthening the meeting market and continuing the development of The Tennis Center of Georgia.

Copies of the GRCVB 2010 Annual Report can be picked up in the Rome / Floyd Visitor Center or found online at www.RomeGeorgia.org.
