Rome, GA

The Rome Town Committee raised $4,000 for the restoration of the Sexton House located on historic Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

The committee donated $2,000 for the project. A matching grant of $2,000 was awarded from The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Georgia.

The grant was awarded to the Rome Town Committee at the 114th annual meeting of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Georgia on April 22, 2009.

The committee donated the money to the Myrtle Hill - Oak Hill Memorial Association to benefit the Sexton House.  “We are very grateful for the assistance and concern that the Rome Town Committee has shown towards this important restoration project at Myrtle Hill.”  stated Lisa Smith, board member for Myrtle Hill/Oak Hill Memorial Association.

Myrtle Hill Cemetery’s Sexton House is currently under renovation to become a information center with restrooms for the cemetery guest during tours of the historic site.

The Myrtle Hill – Oak Hill Memorial Association has led many successful projects including renovations at both Myrtle Hill and Oak Hill cemeteries.
