From the Rome News-Tribune, November 23, 2010:
The Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority (RFPRA) received the 2010 Outstanding Park Award for Alto Park Softball complex from the National Softball Association (NSA).
This is the second year in a row the RFPRA has received this award, according to a press release. The RFPRA was selected for consistently providing excellent services from maintaining quality fields and facilities to providing great customer service before, during and after park events.
Todd Wofford, RFPRA Parks Superintendent stated, “This agency honor shows the dedication of our staff to keep our parks in top condition.”
Alto Park features a five-field complex and a three field fast-pitch tri-plex. In 2010, Alto Park hosted eleven NSA fast-pitch softball tournaments and 299 teams.
Tournaments bring visitors from outside Floyd County to generate Sports Tourism dollars, which also contributes to local SPLOST taxes and sales taxes. “Attracting 299 travel teams to our community is incredible and we will continue to make great efforts to attract sporting events to Rome and Floyd County”, said Wofford. Twelve tournaments are already slated for the Alto Complexes in 2011.
