Rome, Ga. -
The Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau (GRCVB) announced today that Victor Tinney of Rome, Ga. took top honors in the Fall Photo Contest.
Tinney’s entry is a striking photo of the original Berry Cabin located on the grounds of Oak Hill & the Martha Berry Museum. The photo shows beautiful fall colors of orange, yellow and red during their peak. Known as the ‘Birthplace of Berry College,’ the cabin was built in 1873 and was later used by Martha Berry to teach Northwest Georgia children who did not have access to schools.
Corey Boggs of Rome took second place with a photo of a solider standing in the Civil War section of Historic Myrtle Hill Cemetery. Tinney also won third place for a second photo of the Historic Old Mill at Berry College.
Honorable mention photographers include: Brian Coffey of Rome; Valerie Martin of Rome; Greg McCary of Rome; Patricia Montgomery of Cave Spring; and Mark Wison of Centre, Ala.
All photographs can be viewed on the Georgia’s Rome website and Facebook page.
All winners and honorable mentions receive a prize package courtesy of the GRCVB and contest sponsor CVS Photo Center on Martha Berry Boulevard.
The photo contest took place during the month of October, with online voting during the first week in November. Different from past contests, the public chose the winners of the 2010 Fall Photo Contest through Facebook by ‘liking’ their favorite photos.
GRCVB received over 100 entries, but many of the participating photographers were not local. “We were very excited to see that visitors took interest in the contest as well as the locals. These contests are a great tool for showing off Rome to potential visitors,” said Chris Cannon, GRCVB director of communication.
“While we had many more entries into our summer contest, the overall quality of all the photos improved,” said Cannon. “Many of these photos, including several that didn’t win, were so incredibly stunning because they caught a special moment of the fall season in Rome.”
The Fall Photo Contest was sponsored by the CVS Photo Center located at 1905 Martha Berry Boulevard.
The GRCVB also announced today that their next sponsored photo contest will take place in the early months of 2011.
