The Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau announced today the appointment of Chris Cannon as Director of Communication.

In this newly created role, Cannon is responsible for all media, public relations and marketing of Rome to potential tourist, conference and event markets.

While new to the title, Cannon has been working in Rome’s tourism industry for over a year. “I started as the CVB intern in April of 2009, and then quickly moved to a part time position,” said Cannon.

“The CVB is a great fit for me and my passions,” said Cannon. “My specialty is publication design, so I’ve really been working to overhaul all of our marketing publications.” Since Cannon’s arrival, the CVB has introduced a new Facility Guide, Media Guide, Outdoor Adventure Guide, and has a Civil War Guide debuting next week.

A May graduate of Shorter University (then Shorter College), Cannon graduated Magna Cum Lade with a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies and Art.

Being heavily involved with the Shorter community during his college tenure, he is continuing that passion for community involvement. Cannon was recently named to the Heart of the Community Foundation Board of Directors. In addition, he was just elected President of the Delta Sigma Phi Alumni Corporation Board of Shorter University.

“Rome is an amazing city that I am extremely proud to call home – and that really helps when I market this city to potential visitors,” said Cannon.

“Chris is an important asset to our team - he has already started promoting Rome and Floyd County with a new brand, website changes and exciting contests that locals and visitors can become involved in,” said Lisa Smith, Executive Director of the Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We are very excited to have him.”
