OAK HILL CELEBRATES
INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY
ROME, GA. – Oak Hill and The Martha Berry Museum will celebrate International Museum Day on Saturday, May 15, by offering free admission and refreshments for all museum guests.
The featured exhibit will be “A Rich Tapestry: The History of Handicrafts at Berry,” which will be on display in the temporary exhibit gallery space. This exhibit chronicles the history and importance of the handicrafts department at Berry and also features live demonstrations given by alumna Joy Johnson.
International Museum Day has been celebrated all over the world since 1977. Each year, a theme is chosen by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Advisory Committee. The 2010 theme is “Museums for social harmony.” The event provides the opportunity for museum professionals to meet the public and alert them to the challenges that museums face if they are to be – as the ICOM defines them – institutions “in the service of society and of its development".
Oak Hill and The Martha Berry Museum is a popular attraction and the former home of Berry College founder Martha Berry (1865-1942). It is located at the intersection of Georgia Loop 1 and U.S. Highway 27 in Rome, Ga. More information is available via the Web at www.berry.edu/oakhill.
