Shorter University and R.O.M.E. will host a concert featuring the Spelman College Glee Club in celebration of Black History Month. The concert will take place on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rome City Auditorium.
The Spelman College Glee Club has maintained a reputation of choral excellence for more than 50 years. Repertoire consists of sacred and secular choral literature for women's voices with special emphasis on traditional spirituals, music by African-American composers, music from many cultures and commissioned works. The Spelman College Glee Club has traveled throughout the country performing for a variety of audiences. It has performed in concert halls such as Fanueil Hall (Boston), the Brooklyn Academy of Music (N.Y.), Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center and in churches, high schools, colleges, and universities. Their international travels have taken them to Brazil and Canada.
Admission is free to the event; however, tickets are required for admittance. Tickets can be reserved by calling the Shorter University Box Office at 706-233-7288 or by emailing
boxoffice@shorter.edu. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis and all tickets must be picked up at the Shorter University Box Office by Feb. 10.
