ROME, GA. — Local author and historian Mike Ragland will be the first featured presenter in the 2012 Civil War Symposium Series on Thursday, January 19.

The symposium will take place in the Coosa Room of the Rome - Floyd County Library at 6:30pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Ragland will present "When the Yankees Came to Rome," a lecture covering the events of Northwest Georgia from May to November, 1864.

Ragland grew up in Lindale, Ga. and served in the Navy from 1963 to 1967. He is retired from the Rome Police Department following 40 years of service. Now a full time author and historian, Ragland is regularly published in the Rome News-Tribune and the Summerville News.
