Christmas candlelight concert returning to downtown
 
ROME, GA. — The Christmas Candlelight Processional and Concert will celebrate the spirit of Christmas in Rome’s Historic Downtown on December 6.
 
The evening will begin at 6:15pm with a candlelight processional down Broad Street from the City Auditorium (601 Broad Street) to the Forum, with the choirs singing traditional Christmas carols along the way. The public is invited to view the processional along Broad Street and enter The Forum through the main entrance.
 
The concert will begin at 6:30pm in the Forum and will feature a reading of the Christmas Story from the Gospel of Luke with responses from the orchestra and choir in Christmas carols, special solos and a reading of "One Solitary Life."
 
The Northwest Georgia Winds, New Horizons Band, Three Rivers Singers, Shorter University Chorus, and Westminster Presbyterian Church Youth I and Adult Handbell Choirs will present a program of traditional Christmas music.
 
Combined, there will be over 200 musicians led by conductors Sam Baltzer, Bill King, Stefanie Cash and Len Willingham. Dr. Deborah Popham, Assistant Professor of Music at Shorter University, will sing a feature solo.   
 
Narration for the evening will be provided by Dr. Betty Siegel and Marvin Williams. 
 
Siegel is the Distinguished Chair of the Siegel Institute for Leadership, Ethics & Character and President Emeritus at Kennesaw State University. President of the university from 1981-2006, she was first woman to head an institution in the University System of Georgia and nurtured the school from 4,000 to 18,000 students. Since retirement, she has served as a world-wide motivational speaker and has implemented global initiatives for leadership and character development.
 
Williams has been an educator in Polk County for over 31 years. Currently the Superintendent of Schools, he has been a teacher and administrator at several schools throughout the county. Williams is a member and the Minister of Music at Thankful Baptist Church in Rome. 
 
Both the processional and concert are free and open to the public.
