The Berry College Theatre Company will present two full-length plays about strained relationships between college professors and their students beginning Thursday, Nov. 10.
The two shows by Pulitzer-prize winning playwrights will run on alternating days beginning Thursday. Both shows will be at the E.H. Young Theatre in Blackstone Hall on the Berry Campus. John Countryman will direct “Oleanna,” by David Mamet and Kristen Hennessey will direct “Third” by Wendy Wasserstein.
“Both of these plays are very relevant to campus life and academics, which is why we’re producing them at Berry,” Countryman said. “Both plays address events that could very well transpire in a college setting, and challenge both faculty and students to examine their assumptions about academic life.”
Both plays will be presented on the same set designed by senior Cassie Lentz. The change in the look of the set is achieved by the addition or removal of furniture and such and by lighting choices. The plays will be presented in the “studio” space of the E.H. Young Theatre (opposite the main stage) and seating is limited, so patrons are encouraged to make their reservations early.
Performances of “Oleanna” will be at 8 p.m. Nov. 10, 12, 17 and 19. Performances of “Third” will occur at 8 p.m. Nov. 11, 13 and 20. There will be a matinee performance of “Third” at 2 p.m. Nov. 13.
Both plays contain graphic language. The regular ticket price is $7 but patrons may reserve tickets for both shows and get a 2-for-1 deal for $10. For more information please call the Berry Theatre Box Office at 706-236-2263.
