The Friends of Music of Shorter University will present a night of opera and dining on Saturday, October 15. The event will be held in conjunction with the Shorter University Opera and Chamber P.O.T.S. production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Magic Flute."
 
At 5:30pm, the Victorian Rome Tea Room will host a pre-dinner lecture on the opera by Dr. Deborah Popham, opera professor at Shorter University. At 6:00pm, a four course dinner will be served by the tea room.
 
Tickets to the dinner and lecture are $50 ($35 without opera ticket) and include admission to the opera. All proceeds benefit the Friends of Music, a non-profit organization providing scholarships to Shorter University music majors.
 
The opera will be begin at 7:30pm in the Rome City Auditorium.
 
"Magic Flute," or "Die Zauberflöte" in German, is one of Mozart's most famous operas, tells the story of a prince seeking his true love with the help of a new bird-hunter friend. The plot pits the basic philosophy of good versus evil in a way that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.
