John Wisdom Wagon Train returns to Rome this weekend
ROME, GA. — The John Wisdom Wagon Train & Trail Ride will return to Rome this weekend to celebrate the legacy of the Civil War hero for the thirty-second year.
The Wagon Train & Trail Ride will depart Rome’s Coosa Valley Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 15 at 8:30am. The train of horses and wagons will travel to Shannon, Ga on a 23 miles ride. Tickets are $10 and available at entry. Coggins papers must be shown in order to participate.
Citizens in Floyd County should be aware of the route of the wagon train. While no roads will be closed during the roundtrip to Shannon, drivers should be cautious of the riders, animals, and pedestrians on the multiple roadways.
The route will be within Floyd County lines and contain the following roads: Church street, Old Calhoun road, Barron road, Ward Mountain road, Burlington road, Highway 53 south, West Hermitage road, Bells Ferry road and North avenue.
The full route can be viewed online at http://bit.ly/n4Qoi4.
Unlike years past, there will be no afternoon parade down Rome's Broad Street.
The day’s celebration concludes with a western dance featuring Backwater Band at 8pm at the fairgrounds. Blackwater Band was formed in 1994 and was the house band for the Holiday Inn Skytop for many years. Admission to the dance is $5.
