Rome Little Theatre will present its production of “Dracula” on Oct. 21, 22, and 23 and Oct. 28, 29, and 30 at the historic DeSoto Theatre in downtown Rome. Shows run Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at 2:30. There will also be a special performance on Halloween, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at romelittletheatre.com or by calling the box office at 706.295.7171.
“Dracula” is the classic story of Count Dracula, the vampire from the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania who travels to London and wreaks havoc along his journey. The play by Steven Dietz is based on the 1897 novel by Bram Stoker and is told through the journal entries of Jonathan Harker, an English solicitor who pursues Dracula to put an end to the destruction caused by the vampire.
The play features a minimalist set with dramatic and stylish sound and light design that keeps the pace quick and the mood exactly what audience members might expect from a play about the infamous vampire. The cast of 13 includes RLT veterans and newcomers alike.
In conjunction with the show, a blood drive will be held on Friday, Oct. 21, from 12 to 5 p.m., and the cast will participate in the Coosa Valley Chili Cook Off on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Ridge Ferry Park in Rome. Also, patrons who hold a ticket from the Gates of Misery haunted house will receive $2 off their ticket for “Dracula.”
The special Halloween performance of the show will include a costume contest. Patrons may also choose to participate in a private dinner hosted at the “home” of Count Dracula before the Halloween show. Seating is limited for this special dinner, which will be held at the theater, and participants must call the box office to reserve their seats in advance.
Due to the adult themes of “Dracula,” parental discretion is advised. To learn more about any of the shows in Rome Little Theatre’s current season or to reserve seats, please visit romelittletheatre.com or call 706.291.7171.
