Atlanta artist Sarah Emerson’ work “Black Garden” is now on exhibit through Oct. 14 at the Berry College Moon Gallery.
The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
Emerson’s paintings have been described by gallery curator Denise Markonish to contain a “similar dichotomy between a Disney-like saccharine sweetness and a lurking darkness beneath this surface. Emerson’s paintings catch animals and they in turn catch us looking at them…where man and animal can really see each other, even if only for a brief moment.”
Emerson graduated from the Atlanta College of Art in 1997 and went on to complete her master's degree at Goldsmiths College in London. She has exhibited her paintings throughout the United States and Europe. She currently teaches painting and drawing at Emory University and her work was recently shown at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center.
