ROME, GA. — The U.S. Travel Association and the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) have released a study showing $111.46 million in domestic traveler expenditures across Floyd County during 2010, up 3.6% from 2009.
Although Rome & Floyd County have not recovered to pre-recession expenditures of $114 million in 2008, the recent study shows a steady increase from the drop of traveler expenditures to $107 million in 2009.
The entire study presents estimates by the U.S. Travel Association of the economic impact of domestic travel on the state, regional, and county levels in 2010. Estimates include travel expenditures, travel-generated employment and payroll income, as well as tax revenues for state and local government.
In Floyd County, the tourism industry supported a payroll of $22 million and supported 1,160 jobs throughout the service and hospitality industries.

"These newly released numbers show that the tourism industry is healthy and growing despite setbacks from the recession. We look forward to seeing even more improved numbers for 2011," said Lisa Smith, Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau executive director.
