The Coosa Valley Tennis Association is holding a contest to award two partial scholarships for a local boy and girl to attend the 2011 John Isner Bulldog Tennis Camp that will be held at Berry College on July 17-21.
Players ages 10-17 and of all levels, who are from Rome, Floyd County, Chattooga County and Polk County, can win one of the scholarships by submitting their name, age, school, number of years playing tennis, contact information and a 200-word essay to coosavalleytennis@gmail.com by July 5 when members of the CVTA Board of Directors will select the winners based on the information and essays received.
The two $300 scholarships for the winning boy and girl entry will cover half of the camp tuition fee (for day campers) of $595, with the player being responsible for the remaining balance.
The camp will begin July 17 with the first session being held at Coosa Country Club where the players and their parents will have the opportunity to meet Isner, have their pictures taken with him and be a part of a reception.
Isner will also be competing the week of the camp at the 2011 Atlanta Tennis Championship that is part of the U.S. Open Series at the Racquet Club of the South in Norcross. Should Isner play his first round match on Wednesday, July 20, the campers will have the opportunity to take a bus trip to see him play.
This is the second year Isner and University of Georgia Associated Head Tennis Coach Will Glenn, who is the camp director, have teamed up to host the camp.
Glenn has been at Georgia as a coach since 2005 and as a player since 1998. He has spent the past 12 years helping the program win National Championships as both a player and coach. In 2008 he was named Associate Head Coach alongside Manuel Diaz after winning back to back NCAA National Championships.
Glenn coached Isner during Isner’s career at Georgia and then on the pro tour in 2009 where he traveled with Isner to Australia and New Zealand.
