Changes to Clocktower Classic handcycling race
Due to the extensive damage throughout Floyd County following the April 27 storms, the 36-mile Road Race in Texas Valley, and the Hill Climb up Lavender Mountain of the Clocktower Classic hancycling race will not be held in Floyd County, according to Ann Hortman, race director.
"We realize the widespread damage and understand that all members of Floyd County public safety and public works are needed for assisting our citizens," said Hortman.
The three other stages of the race will continue as normal with the Team Relay occurring tonight in Cedartown, the Downtown Criterium on Saturday at 6p.m. in downtown Rome, and the Time Trial on Technology Parkway at 10a.m. on Sunday.
Saturday's ancillary events have also been adjusted to allow attendees to support relief efforts across the county.
Streets Alive will continue on Saturday as scheduled from 2p.m. to 5p.m. with the addition of donation stations throughout Broad Street.
Additionally, a portion of the proceeds of the block party fundraiser scheduled in conjunction with the Downtown Criterium will go to the American Red Cross and Salvation Army for relief efforts in Rome & Floyd County. The party taking place in the parking lot behind Harvest Moon will feature local band Broad & Third.
Lisa Smith, a vocalist for the band, said, "Since the catastrophic weather this week, organizers have agreed to share proceeds between Claws for Paws and local relief organizations."
Ann Arnold, director of downtown development said, "By adding this fundraising component, Saturday's events provide us with an opportunity to have fun in our downtown, but also help our neighbors throughout the county that need help."
For more information on the block party, contact the Rome - Floyd Visitor Center at 706.295.5575 or 800.444.1834.
