FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Symposium to feature story of John Wisdom

ROME, GA. – The Rome & Floyd County Civil War Symposium Series will highlight the epic saga of John Wisdom and Emma Sampson on Monday, May 2 at the Rome – Floyd Public Library.

Mike McDougald, known in Rome for his extensive experience in broadcasting and radio, will be the featured presenter. McDougald was a founder of Heritage Holidays and the John Wisdom Wagon Train.

The series is sponsored by the Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Rome - Floyd Public Library.

The presentation will feature an overview of May 2-4, 1863 and how John Wisdom, known as the Paul Revere of the South, courageously saved the city of Rome. Wisdom rode from Gadsden, Ala. to Rome to warn the citizens of Union troops in route. As the story is told, a photo presentation will show the modern location of the historical sites.

McDougald has produced a CD covering the events of May 3, 1863 in the style of modern radio titled "The Ride of John Wisdom." McDougald will sign copies of the CD and will be available for purchase. All proceeds from the sale of the CD benefit the Rome - Floyd County Library and the Rome Area History Museum.

The symposium will begin at 6:30pm in the Coosa and Etowah rooms. The symposium is free and open to the public; no tickets necessary.
