TIGER FLIGHT
Teaching kids to fly their own lives in positive ways!
Richard B. Russell Airport • Floyd County • Rome, Georgia (RMG)
Rome, GA: You can’t help but be impressed, jaw hanging open, when the Tiger Flight roars overhead, four orange-and-black striped twin-tailed prop planes flying in perfect formation. They’re airplanes. They’re cool. It’s that sense of awe and wonder that led a group of pilots to band together to teach children life values and responsibility through lessons about aviation under the name “Tiger Flight.” According to Phil “Sunny” Cataldo one of the Tiger Flight pilots, has built on an aviation concept called“Pilot In Command.” The idea is that when a pilot is flying, he is completely in command of himself and his surroundings. This includes his personal safety as well as that of everyone in the plane and on the ground. To take on the responsibility of so many people can be daunting, but necessary. From this concept, Tiger Flight was born. “Why don’t we talk to kids about being the pilot in command of their own lives, flying their own lives?” says Phil. “Suddenly that turned into the mission of Tiger Flight – leading the young to the dream of flight in the air and on the ground. Now we talk to kids about flying their own lives.” Plans are underway for a series of Tiger Flight open hangar days that will run one Saturday a month from June through August. “We are gearing up to launch our first awareness campaign and want as many children and their families to come out and visit us,” says Clint Johnson, President, Tiger Flight Foundation, a non-profit organization. All funds raised support their youth educational programs. The summer program will lead up to a Tiger Flight Special Fall Weekend featuring a 1940’s Hangar Dinner Dance and a Saturday “Come Play Day” for the kids.
